D.C. police say two people were shot just a couple blocks from Gallaudet University in Northeast Tuesday night.
The shooting was reported just before 9 p.m. in the 1200 block of Mt. Olivet Road NE. When crews arrived, they found two gunshot victims in the area, both conscious and breathing at the time.
"I heard gunshots like the Fourth of July," a neighbor said, explaining she immediately got on the floor. "We've been doing this for like two weeks now."
Just a day before the double shooting, residents and public officials gathered to discuss a spike in crime in the D.C. police department's 5th District, which includes the area around Gallaudet. In 2013, the district was lauded for having the biggest drop in crime.
Police have not yet released suspect information.
