Police Investigate Two Similar Sex Assaults in Northeast D.C.

Two women were sexually assaulted by a man on a dark bike with a knife after leaving Metro stations in northeast D.C., police said.

Police are investigating whether the same man committed both attacks.

About 10:45 p.m. July 28, a woman was attacked in the unit block of Riggs Road NE after leaving the Fort Totten Metro station a couple of blocks away.

After midnight Friday, a woman was attacked in the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue, several blocks away from the Brookland-CUA Metro station she'd just left.

In one case, the man robbed the victim.

Police released surveillance video of a person of interest from near Friday's assault. They described him as an African-American man in his 20s or 30s standing 6-foot to 6-foot-2 with a medium-to-dark complexion and facial hair.

People are advised to be cautious when walking alone in the area.
