D.C. Jazz Festival to Include More Than 80 Concerts

More than 80 performances are planned across Washington over the next two weeks for the D.C. Jazz Festival, including a concert fusing Latin jazz and classical music.

The festival, now in its ninth year, opens Wednesday and runs through June 16 at more than 40 locations.

Executive producer Charlie Fishman says he uses the diversity of jazz to create innovative programs.

``Jazz Meets the Latin Classics'' will feature saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera leading an 11-piece ensemble June 14 at the Kennedy Center.

The festival also includes 10 nights of performances on stage downtown at The Hamilton. Many other concerts will be held in neighborhoods. The Jazz in the `Hoods series includes concerts at Bohemian Caverns, the Howard Theatre and the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.
