D.C. Council to Hold Hearing on Soccer Stadium

The D.C. Council will hold a hearing on a proposal to help DC United build a new soccer stadium at the same time the U.S. men's national team plays a pivotal World Cup game against Germany.

Thursday's hearing starts at 9:30 a.m., and the U.S. men's match starts at noon. Some soccer fans complained that it was poor planning by the council to schedule the hearing at the same time.

Mayor Vincent Gray's administration wants to spend $150 million on the stadium. The money would go toward securing land through a series of swaps and infrastructure improvements.

Gray wants the council to act on the deal quickly, but Council Chairman Phil Mendelson has said it will likely be up to the next mayor whether the stadium goes forward.
