STERLING, Va. -- The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the D.C. area Saturday.
The watch, effective until 7 p.m., includes D.C. and its suburbs in Maryland and Virginia.
Severe thunderstorms also are possible.
Severe is most likely between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
In the event of a tornado warning, people are warned to go to the basement or a central, lower-level room and stay away from windows. Drivers should stop and seek shelter.
