A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital after being struck by a car as he crossed the street in front of a stopped school bus in a Manassas, Virginia, Tuesday morning.
The boy was crossing Lomond Drive when a car traveling in the opposite direction struck him. Traffic had backed up and was stopped on one side of the street; the driver of the striking vehicle, a Ford Focus, was coming from the opposite direction.
The victim, a 6th grader at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, was not getting on or off the bus at the time.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene. No decision on charges has been made.
Fire officials say the child was flown to a hospital for medical treatment. His injuries are serious, but not life-threatening.
