NBC Washington

A woman died when a car hit her in McLean, Virginia, Friday morning, police say.

The crash happened about 6 a.m. on Kirby Road not far from Old Dominion Drive, Fairfax County police said. Vinson Hall, a retirement community, is close to the crash scene.

Brigitte Forster, age 86, was in the crosswalk trying to cross the street when the driver of a 2009 Toyota Sienna turned left onto northbound Kirby Road.

That driver "cut the turn short and entered the southbound lanes striking Forster in the crosswalk," according to FCPD.

Forster was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead on Friday morning.

The driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, authorities said.
