ARLINGTON, Va. -- Arlington County has announced a hiring freeze and other measures to help address a projected $10 million budget shortfall.
County Manager Ron Carlee announced the freeze Thursday in a memo to county employees. He also ordered the elimination of discretionary spending.
In addition to the county budget gap, the Arlington school district faces a $7.5 million shortfall, Carlee said.
Arlington is better positioned than many other local governments in the region but isn't immune to the downturn, Carlee said.
