Looking for a job?
Amazon is about to hire 1,500 people for full-time jobs at a warehouse in Baltimore County, the company and county officials announced.
"Amazon is hiring on the spot. If you are looking for a job and are qualified, you could walk out of an Amazon hiring event with a job offer," Will Anderson, director of the Baltimore County Department of Economic and Workforce Development, said in a statement.
Applicants age 18 and older should fill out Amazon's online application. Then, they may get invited to schedule in-person interviews in the area in September, Amazon spokeswoman Rachael Lighty said.
The jobs of "warehouse fulfillment associates" range from "selecting items and sorting packages inside our warehouse fulfillment centers to shopping for Prime Now customers in a grocery store," Amazon's job website says. The wage starts at $12.50 an hour, which is above Maryland's $10.10 minimum wage. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.
The associates will work at the Tradepoint Atlantic industrial facility in Sparrows Point, east of Dundalk. The Amazon facility there will be open before the holidays, the general manager told The Baltimore Sun earlier this month.
The 855,000-square-foot warehouse has 11 miles of conveyor belts and a robotics system that brings merchandise to workers, rather than vice versa, the Sun reported.
