Police: Beacon Hill Bandit Arrested

Police say they arrested the Beacon Hill Bandit Tuesday in the Sept. 23 robbery of the TD Bank at 557 S. Van Dorn Street in Alexandria.

Police charged 48-year-old Carlton Thorne with robbery. Fairfax County detectives also obtained three warrants charging Thorne in bank robberies that occurred there.

About 2:10 p.m. Sept. 23, a man entered the South Van Dorn Street branch, implied he had a weapon, demanded money and fled with cash, police. He was last seen getting in to a white sedan on South Pickett Street.

Police credited good police work for the apprehension but would not comment further on the investigation.

Authorities believe one man robbed one bank branch five times since 2010.

They believe that same man robbed a bank at 7209 Little River Turnpike in Annandale last week. Authorities say he approached a teller and demanded "20s and 50s," handing over a plastic bag for the cash. Ultimately, he fled the bank without the cash and was seen getting into the passenger side of an older model white Jeep Cherokee.

The FBI has issued a call to the public asking for any information that will lead to his arrest. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is being asked to contact the FBI at 202-278-2000 or the Fairfax County Police Department at 703-691-2131.
