A woman crossing a road near the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station died Wednesday morning after she was hit by a driver.
Silvia Raquel Corella Erazo, 72, of Reston, was crossing Wiehle Avenue, headed west, when a driver headed south in a 2005 Honda Accord slammed into her, Fairfax County police said. The victim was rushed to Reston Hospital Center with life-threatening injuries and died there.
An investigation of the crash is ongoing. The driver, a 30-year-old man, does not appear to have been speeding or under the influence of alcohol, police said. His name was not released.
There are no crosswalks at the intersection where Erazo was hit, according to police. Wiehle Avenue was partially closed after the crash.
