Woman Raped Near GW, Spanish Embassy

A man forced a woman to have sex with him near Washington Circle in northwest D.C. early Wednesday morning, police said.

She was forced into an alley in the 2300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue and raped, police said. It was reported at 1:48 a.m., according to Officer Istmania Bonilla.

The alley also serves as access to a garage entrance to the Embassy of Spain, so there are several security cameras in place, News4's Jackie Bensen reported. Police have not said whether the incident or the attacker was caught on camera.

The rape took place near George Washington University, but it is unknown if a student was the victim. GW officials put out a campus alert Wednesday to warn students about the incident.

The man was described as Hispanic, standing about 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9 and weighing about 135-145 pounds with short black hair, police said. He wore a black jacket and blue jeans.

The victim did not know her attacker, police said.

Anyone with information about the attack should call police at 202-727-9099.
