A D.C. woman was charged after leading police on a high-speed chase while she had children in her car in Northern Virginia early Thursday, authorities said.
Charlina McBride, 41, was driving 82 mph in a 55 mph zone on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County when Virginia State Police tried to pull her over near the 53-mile marker shortly after 12:45 a.m., Virginia State Police said.
When McBride refused to stop for the trooper, the chase began. Police say she sped away driving west, then took an emergency crossover near a rest area in Manassas and continued driving east, according to Virginia State Police.
Police positioned themselves in front of her Toyota Camry and gradually forced her to stop near the 70-mile marker, they said.
A 7-year-old, a 3-year-old and a 9-month-old were evaluated at the scene as a precautionary measure, police said. None of them were injured in the incident. They were placed in the custody of a family member, police said.
McBride was charged with one felony count of eluding police, and for reckless driving and improper registration.
She is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
