    A Virginia man was one of eight American service members working with NATO in Afghanistan who died Wednesday.

    Air Force Capt. Charles A. Ransom, 31, of Midlothian, was caught in the crossfire when a veteran Afghan military pilot fire on NATO troops at the Kabul military airport.

    Ransom was a 2001 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute.
