Vanished Abduction Suspect Arrested in Las Vegas

Ex-cop accused of abducting wife twice 18 years ago

In an abduction case that's been cold for almost two decades, police believe they've found their man.

Las Vegas homicide detectives arrested a former Fairfax County Police officer, 68-year-old Bruce Webster, on Thursday. He is accused of abducting his wife, Joann Webster, on May 18, 1990, and Jan. 1, 1991.

Police arrested Webster as a suspect in the second abduction on Jan. 7, 1991, but he did not appear in court and could not be found by authorities, police said.

Joanne Webster was 44 when she was found dead on Feb. 16, 1991. That cold case remains under investigation, but investigators reopened the slightly colder case of Bruce Webster's failure to appear in court warrant in November 2007.

Webster was found and interviewed on Jan. 14. On Monday, he was indicted in Fairfax County on two counts of abduction and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is in custody in Las Vegas awaiting extradition.
