Shock Forecast: Big Heat Wave Possible Late Next Week in Washington, D.C.

One of the world’s best long-range forecast models, known as the Euro, predicts a big heat wave repeat this time next week. The simulations above show 2 p.m. temperatures in the neighborhood of 95-100 degrees Thursday through Saturday around Washington, D.C. 100+ readings are seen over central Virginia into North Carolina."

Police Arrest Maryland Man After Naked Attack in Manassas

InsideNoVa.com:  "Prince William police charged a Maryland man on Thursday morning after they said he tried to abduct a hotel worker while naked at a Manassas-area hotel. The victim, a 24-year-old Manassas woman who works at the Holiday Inn at 10424 Balls Ford Road, told police that she was in the hotel’s hallway getting cleaning supplies at 11:46 a.m. when Langston Wayne Hunter allegedly grabbed her and tried to pull her into his hotel room, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said."

Metro to Roll Out Online Fare Site in August

Washington Examiner:  "Metro plans to start letting its riders use an online site to reload money onto their fare cards later this summer, allowing commuters to skip lines at vending machines and stop surfing on moving buses. The agency plans to open the online site to all registered SmarTrip users by the end of August, General Manager Richard Sarles said Thursday. Riders will be able to use a credit or debit card to add more money. They also can choose to have fare added automatically if their balances fall below pre-determined amounts.

FAA to Furlough 1,000 Workers in D.C. Region

Washington Business Journal : "About 1,000 employees of the Federal Aviation Administration in the Washington region will face immediate furloughs unless Congress extends stop-gap funding my midnight Friday, The Washington Post reported.The FAA has said about 4,000 of its 32,000 workers nationwide would be furloughed, and the Transportation Department said 975 would be people based in the Washington region. The furlough would also affect construction workers under FAA contract on airport projects.
