Teen, 13, Arrested in Frederick Shooting That Injured 15-Year-Old Girl

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a Fourth of July shooting that left a 15-year-old girl injured in Maryland.

The boy, a Frederick resident, is facing seven charges, including first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Frederick Police say the 13-year-old fired a handgun several times toward Sagner Avenue on the Fourth of July. The victim was hit in the leg as she walked down the street with friends.

The girl was treated at a hospital and released. Police don't believe she was the intended target of the gunfire.

Following the shooting, authorities searched a home near Sagner Avenue and recovered evidence pertaining to the shooting, they said.

They found the suspect around 10:45 p.m. Saturday in the area of the Lucas Village Community Park. He was taken to a juvenile detention center the following day.
