Silver Spring Transit Center to Cost $112 Million

Officials say the cost of the new transit hub has increased again by about $11 million

Montgomery County officials say the cost of a Silver Spring transit hub has gone up again by about $11 million.

The Washington Post reports that the price tag for the center is now $112 million, more than three times the original estimate.

The Silver Spring Transit Center would bring together buses, Metro rail and MARC trains in the downtown area.

The project's opening has been delayed repeatedly by changes in construction plans and a lack of sufficient funding, and it is now several years behind schedule.

County officials said Monday that it could be completed by August at the earliest.
