16-Hour Barricade Ends as Police Take Rape Suspect Into Custody

A man suspected in a rape barricaded himself inside a Washington, D.C., home for 16 hours after police showed up to execute a search warrant, Arlington County police say.

Both Arlington County and D.C. police officers went to the home in the 3300 block of Mt. Pleasant Street NW at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday to execute a search warrant and arrest 60-year-old Salodus Zeloter Hicks on charges of forcible rape and strangulation.

When they arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home and threatened to hurt himself, according to police.

Officers took Hicks into custody Thursday after 16 hours, police said.

There were no reports of injuries.

Police said Hicks met a woman through an online advertisement and assaulted and raped her when they met at her apartment in the 5500 block of Columbia Pike on Sept. 17.
