WASHINGTON -- Independent at-large D.C. Councilman Michael Brown, who is believed to be planning a challenge to Mayor Adrian Fenty next year, ranks video games among the biggest problems facing D.C.'s youth.
In a speech at the April ANC 5A meeting that Brookland Heartbeat likened to a stump speech, Brown criticized the direction of the city and attacked Fenty and schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee for failing to fix the public school system.
According to Brookland Heartbeat, Brown said the school modernization program doesn't address the man problems D.C. children face: gunfire, lack of neighborhood amenities like grocery stores, lack of vocational and technical schooling, and, of course, excessive video gaming.
In 2005, when Fenty was a councilman, he fell short of legislating the sale of violent video games to children in D.C., GamePolitics.com noted.
When asked if he was planning to run for mayor, Brown did not dismiss the rumor, Brookland Heartbeat reported. Fenty responded by saying Brown is entitled to his opinion.
