Prince George's County Police Officer Charged With Theft

Man accused of stealing video equipment from warehouse

A Prince George's County police officer is accused of stealing from the department's property warehouse.

Martin Abundez, who's been with the department for six years, faces multiple counts of theft and misconduct in office, officials said. Abundez is accused of stealing video equipment, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

The theft occurred in January, police said, and prosecutors formally charged Abundez in March after an investigation.

Police Chief Mark Magaw called the alleged thefts a “serious breach of the public trust.”

Abundez declined to comment on the allegations Tuesday and said he wanted to first speak with his union representatives.
