Virginia State Police are investigating the death of a Prince William County homicide detective.
Officers found Detective Juan Pena's body Tuesday morning in the Bristow Road area of Independent Hill.
Officials with the county's police department said Pena's death does not appear to be suspicious.
Pena served in the United States Army from 1996 until 2003 before joining the police force in 2003.
"Juan cared deeply for his family, friends, and fellow department members, and his smile and kind heart showed everyday," a message published on the Prince William County Police Department's Facebook page said.
Pena is survived by his wife and children.
