Police: 14-Year-Old Boy Killed Family's Puppy

A 14-year-old boy is facing an animal cruelty charge after police say he killed his family's puppy.

Officer were called to the 200 block of Mountain Road in Linthicum, Md., just after 1 p.m. Tuesday for a disturbance. There they found a 10-week-old St. Bernard in the teen's bed with stab wounds to the throat and stomach area, police said. A kitchen knife covered in blood was found next to the dog.

Investigators say the teen had blood on his arms, legs and shorts. He was taken into custody and later charged with animal cruelty on a juvenile citation.

While police don't know why the boy stabbed the puppy, it doesn't appear the teen was provoked by the dog.

The boy was released into his father's custody.
