Person Fatally Struck by Train Northest of Union Station

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a train in Northeast D.C. on Thursday morning.

Preliminary information indicates the person appears to have been intentionally on the tracks, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

D.C. Fire and EMS responded to the scene in the 1600 block of New York Avenue NE, about three miles northeast of Union Station, at 9:50 a.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His or her name hasn't been released.

Amtrak, MARC and CSX share the tracks in the area, D.C. Fire said. MTA said the person was struck by a MARC train, News4's Adam Tuss reports.

All MARC train service was suspended for several hours north of Union Station.

Limited Penn Line service was restored around 2:40 p.m., but with several service modifications.
