Pedestrian Struck by Police Car on Highway

A 60-year-old man crossing Mount Vernon Memorial Highway Tuesday was hospitalized when a police officer in a marked car struck him.

According to Fairfax County Police, the pedestrian stepped in front of the officer's car a "substantial distance" away from an intersection at approximately 2 p.m. The pedestrian was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, and the officer was not injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
