A man D.C. police believe was high on synthetic drugs kicked a senior citizen in the head Tuesday night in front of the Chinatown location of Starbucks.
A man witnessed by News4's Jackie Bensen approached a senior citizen waiting for a southbound 70 or 74 bus at 7th and I streets NW about 8:15 p.m. and began to assault him. The attacker knocked the unsuspecting man to the ground and kicked him in the head on the busy street.
When Metropolitan Police Department officers approached the attacker, he cursed at them, screaming that he could "take them all."
Then he sat on the curb, smiled and laughed.
The attacker was taken to a hospital for what police on the scene believed was an overdose on synthetic drugs.
The victim stayed at the bus stop, spoke with officers and could be seen with a large knot on his head.
D.C. Police have linked several recent crimes, including the fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old man on a Metro train, to a spike in synthetic drug use this summer. Drugs known as K2, Scooby Snax and spice can have a PCP-like effect, leading to violent behavior.
