Concrete falls from overpass onto Route 50

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Falling concrete caused problems for motorists in Arlington Thursday morning.

The edge of the sidewalk on the Glebe Road overpass began crumbling away from the metal reinforcement bars. Pieces of concrete fell onto Route 50 below, forcing lane closures during the morning rush hour.

Two of the three westbound lanes of Rt. 50 were closed, as was a northbound lane on Glebe Road.  Commuters headed east lost a lane toward the end of rush hour.

Work crews are chipping away the loose concrete and cleaning the road.  The lanes were re-opened by 11 a.m.
