Injured Hiker Rescued From Sugarloaf Mountain

Police dropped onto a mountain by helicopter Monday evening to rescue an injured hiker in rural Montgomery County.

Maryland State Police and Montgomery County Police rushed to Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, Maryland and rescuers descended from a helicopter and climbed the mountain to aid someone, dramatic footage from the News4 chopper shows.

The patient who appeared to be on the Blue Trail was harnessed to a backboard and hoisted into the helicopter by rope.

The hiker, believed to be a man in his 20s, suffered a head injury and was unable to extricate himself, according to initial information received by state police. 

Information on the hiker's condition wasn't immediately available.

Sugarloaf Mountain hits an elevation of 1,282 feet and stands 800 feet higher than the farmland below, according to the private group that manages the recreation area
