The family of a 20-year-old woman found dead in Temple Hills, Md., last week asked a judge Monday to make sure nothing happens to the suspect in jail “so we can have our justice.”
The judge allowed Wynetta Wright’s family to speak in court Monday.
“You’re a monster,” the family said to suspect Richmond Phillips. “You’re trash.”
Wright’s body was found Thursday evening near the tree line of a park near the Hillcrest Heights Community Center. Her 1-year-old daughter Jaylin was found dead in a Saturn SUV parked up the street.
Wright and her daughter had last been seen the night of May 30, according to their family. She and 39-year-old Richmond Phillips were to appear in court in a paternity and child support case the following day. Wright’s mother said her daughter had left after receiving a call from Phillips asking to meet.
According to court documents, surveillance video from the community center shows Wright and Phillips sitting on a park bench from about 11 p.m. May 30 until 6 a.m. May 31, when Wright was shot to death. Phillips then moved Wright’s SUV with Jaylin inside, police said.
Police believe the child may have died of heat exposure, as she wasn’t discovered for a couple of days.
Phillips, a member of the D.C. vice squad, is charged with murder in connection with Wright’s death and manslaughter in the death of Jaylin. He is being held without bond.
