Hometown Hero Wins Soap Box Derby

Sean Brown makes us proud

A 14-year-old Spotsylvania resident is a hometown hero. Sean Brown won the 73rd All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday.

More than 500 boys and girls competed from across the nation and the world, with contestants hailing from as far away as New Zealand.  Ranging in age from 8 to 17 years old, they spent months building their gravity-powered racecars with the help of adult mentors.

Sean won his division in the Rally Super Stock race.  He also won part of the $30,000 scholarship prize.
