First All-Female Honor Flight Takes Veterans to Washington

An organization that offers older veterans free flights to D.C. is bringing its first all-female group to see the war memorials.

More than 140 people are on the roster for Tuesday's Honor Flight daytrip to D.C. from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, WCPO-TV reported.

Ninety-one-year-old participant Dorothy Kist, who was a Navy radio operator during World War II, said she hoped to see the memorial for military women at Arlington National Cemetery. It's among several memorials on the agenda for the trip.

The trip was organized with help from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Honor Flight's regional director, Cheryl Popp, said the organization had long wanted to arrange an all-female flight but had difficulty tracking down participants. A VA office helped by mailing information, and 250 applications were submitted, Popp said.
