DUI Suspect Drives Drives on to Police Cruiser

Police: Driver unaware the cruiser was there

A Frederick County, Md., man is facing a slew of charges, including drunken driving, after a crash following an argument at a bar landed him literally on top of a police cruiser.

Witnesses told police that Brian Head, 26, of Middletown got into an argument with someone outside a tavern in downtown Frederick early Sunday morning.

Head then allegedly got into his pickup truck to pursue the other individual.

Police said Head rammed into the other person’s Volkswagen, pushing it into a utility pole. He then apparently backed up in reverse and his Ford F-250 came to rest on the hood of an unmarked police cruiser.

The officer, Sgt. Matthew Burns, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Investigators said Sgt. Burns had been trying to stop Head's truck. They do not believe Head was aware of the cruiser behind him. The driver of the Volkswagen was not seriously hurt.

Brian Head was released Sunday morning on a $10,000 bond. Along with DUI charges, he also faces charges of reckless driving, negligent driving and two counts of second-degree assault.
