Coast Guard to the Rescue!

"It’s a great thing they were wearing their life jackets": Coast guard officer

Doing what they do best, the Coast Guard stepped in when a boat tipped over and dumped four people into the Potomac River near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Sunday.

Coast Guard Station Washington, D.C., rescued two people from the water after getting a call about the capsized day sailor boat from a ship on the scene.

Shortly after the Coast Guard rescued the two, Washington, D.C. Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and pulled out the remaining two people.  All four people were wearing their life jackets.

"It’s a great thing they were wearing their life jackets," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Eric Ciuca. "The situation could have turned worse."

After the passengers were safe, their boat was re-righted and towed into Washington Sailing Marina.

Officials did not say what caused the boat to flip over.
