Chicken Soup for the Nightclubber's Soul

ICE: Man carried cocaine disguised as dried soup

WASHINGTON -- Another man has been caught trying to smuggle cocaine camouflaged as soup into the Washington area from El Salvador.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrested Jorge Luis Posada Guevara Saturday at Dulles after Customs and Border Protection K-9 Milo sniffed out about 16 pounds of coke stuffed in six boxes of dried chicken noodle soup.

ICE men patrolled the airport Saturday after receiving a tip from a Miami-based border patrol agent that Guevara possibly was a member of an organization smuggling drugs from El Salvador to the Washington area, the Washington Times reported. Guevara fit the profile because he'd made recent short trips to El Salvador, the agent said.

Guevara confessed he wore a black hat and a white T-shirt so his contact at Dulles could spot him and pick up the drugs, the Times reported. An ICE agent donned the outfit and met Hidsar Orlando Henriquez Parada instead. The agent followed Parada outside the airport and arrested him.

Parada was supposed to take the drugs to a man in Wheaton, authorities said.

Last month, another man was caught carrying more than 14 pounds of cocaine hidden in dried soup packets at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, authorities said. ICE agents acted on tips from border patrol in that case, too.
