Ballou Band Performs at Tournament of Roses Parade

D.C. high school band's trip to California made possible by donations

It was a memorable New Year's Day for a high school marching band from Washington.

Ballou High School's Majestic Knights played in the 120th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.  All 95 members of the band performed. to a live national television audience.

An estimated one million people lined the streets to watch the parade.

It has been a high-profile year for the Majestic Knights.  The band was the subject of a documentary that was screened at the White House, and band members appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and ABC's Good Morning America.

The trip to Pasadena was made possible by a number of donations, including one from the "Ellen" show.

While in California, the Majestic Knights also performed at Bandfest, a showcase for the parade's 21 marching bands.  According to the Pasadena Star-News, the band's music and dance routine received "a raucus standing ovation."
