18-Year-Old Charged in Death of Teen Who Fell From Car in Va. Parking Lot

An 18-year-old Northern Virginia man has been charged in the death of a 17-year-old who fell off a car in a Sterling parking lot.

Authorities say that on Aug. 5, Shafin Karim was driving a Subaru as 17-year-old Mohammad U. Khalid rode on the trunk area.

Khalid, of Sterling, was trying to record video footage of the ride in the Ethan Allen parking lot at 45000 Dulles Crossing Plaza, authorities said.

The younger teen fell off when Karim made a turn within the parking lot, and suffered a serious head injury, authorities said. He was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital and died Aug. 8.

Karim, of Ashburn, is facing charges of reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter, Loudoun County authorities announced Wednesday.
