Tickets Fly on Beltway After Operation Centipede

Maryland State Police put the full court press on dangerous drivers last night on the Beltway.

Friday evening, extra personnel were on hand for Operation Centipede, an initiative to clamp down on speeders, drunk drivers, and inattentive drivers.  During last night's action, troopers targeted the Beltway in Prince George's County.

Authorities said they pulled over 195 vehicles on Friday evening.  State troopers said they wrote 91 traffic citations for a variety of offenses.  Eleven drivers got tickets for driving with a suspended or revoked license, three for drunk driving, and one for a drug violation.

In addition, they wrote 115 warnings and 13 safety equipment repair orders.

No traffic fatalities or serious injuries were reported Friday night on the Beltway.
