Seems like everything has a version 2.0 these days ... the Web; the iPhone; your, uh, "career" at Starbucks ... So why not feminism?
Media professionals, history-makers and those old favorites, bloggers will convene Monday at the Feminism 2.0 Conference. Women make up the majority of the population, the majority of Internet users, and shockingly enough, even the majority of online game players. (Try telling that to all the World of Warcraft-obsessed dudes we know, but whatevs.)
Says the Web site: "Feminism2.0 brings together the leadership of major women’s advocacy organizations and online women’s communities to further the connection between today’s issues and women’s voices. ... Participation includes, but is not limited to, mothers, daughters, feminist and social organizations, academics and thought leaders, online media networks, and individual bloggers, weaving all into one united voice to talk and raise awareness about, and position and promote, issues impacting women and families."
That ... pretty much includes everyone then.
Guests will include USA Today columnist Christine Brennan and Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority. The day will start off with a multimedia presentation of the history of the women's movement and conclude with breakout sessions. Attendants can choose two to attend; topics include Organizing the Next Generation of Feminists Online and Off, and Injecting Feminism into Popular Culture. Yeah, the "Girls Gone Wild" producers are NOT gonna appreciate THIS.
