She's Got the Crown Until Monday, Anyway

A Miss California pageant official said the fate of title holder Carrie Prejean will be decided by Monday.

Keith Lewis and co-director Shanna Moakler have scheduled a live news conference for Monday morning in Beverly Hills to discuss whether Prejean will remain in her role. Lewis told The Associated Press Friday that he, Moakler and Prejean's representatives are close to a resolution in the issue.

Lewis said the runner-up Miss California, Tami Farrell, will be at Monday's news conference, but he did not know if Prejean will attend.

Miss California USA spokesman Roger Neal said Tuesday it appears the 21-year-old Prejean has run afoul of several sections of the 12-page contract prospective contestants were required to sign before competing in the state contest.

The contract contains a clause asking participants whether they have conducted themselves "in accordance with the highest ethical and moral standards" and if they've ever been photographed nude or partially nude.

The detailed document also prohibits the titular Miss California from making personal appearances, giving interviews or making commercials without permission from pageant officials. In the last 10 days, Prejean has made televised appearances at her San Diego church and on behalf of the National Organization for Marriage, a group opposed to same-sex marriage.

"As you can see from the contract, she violated multiple items," Neal said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Prejean spokeswoman Melany Ethridge said she couldn't comment on the contract because she's unfamiliar with its contents.

Prejean made a loud debut in the public eye after a controversial but honest answer to Perez Hilton's question on gay marriage at the Miss USA pageant. Then, she answered questions from Matt Lauer on the Today Show and refused to back down on her stance.

Soon after, she was rumored to be dating Olympic swimming champion, Michael Phelps. (They're just friends, she says.)

When she returned home to San Diego, she made the rounds of local television morning newscasts talking about her faith and her future.

Now, just a week after her triumphant return to the Rock Church, the openly Christian beauty queen is in the middle of a photo scandal.

A photo of Prejean wearing only pink panties with her back turned to the camera appeared Monday on a gossip blog.

According to Access Hollywood, Prejean swears she was 17 or under when the photos were taken.

Neal, the pageant spokesman, told the entertainment-news program that officials from the Miss California organization are in communication with an an attorney from Miss USA as well as someone from Prejean's camp and that a meeting is being set up between the current Miss Malibu (the first alternate to the Miss California title) and Miss Teen USA within the next few days.

The contract that Carrie signed is specific about nude or seminude photos and their existence would give pageant officials the grounds for dismissal, Neal said.

Miss California officials also told Access Hollywood they do not believe Prejean was 17 in the photo they saw and that they believe the photo was shot between the time of her breast augmentation and the Miss USA pageant, pointing out that her hair length is similar to what it was when she won the Miss California crown.

"There are six photos, they say," Access Hollywood's Billy Bush said in a television interview. Bush said he saw one photo. "They are not much different than the photos Miley Cyrus took for Vanity Fair."

"You can see the side view, but that's about it," said Nancy O'Dell, also of Access Hollywood.

O'Dell read from a statement released by Prejean:

"I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently, photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith. I'm not perfect. I've never claimed to be. These attacks on me and others who speak in defense of traditional marriage are intolerant and offensive."

"It's a witch hunt!" said Bush. "It's almost like a script that's been followed before."

Alicia Jacobs, the Entertainment Reporter at KVBC in Las Vegas, has seen all six of the photos and said that some are much more revealing. She said she thinks they may have been taken after Prejean's pageant-financed breast implant surgery, about six weeks ago.
