Goldilocks' Gruel Is a Hit at Starbucks

You can get it with with mixed nuts, dried fruit or brown sugar. But, be warned, you may have to wait in line. In September, Starbucks launched its latest offering on it's health-oriented breakfast menu and sales have been brisk, to say the least. Michelle Gass, senior vice president of marketing at Starbucks tell Reuters, "It is the single highest volume (food) item in our history." Hmm. Steamy, grey and lumpy is back in style?

Well, maybe it has something to do with the dropping temperatures, the comfort value and the fairy-tale associations of "porridge", or maybe it's the extra ingredients that make it seem new and exciting. But who would have thought the once notoriously bland breakfast staple would become a hit again? Well, maybe it shouldn't come as such a surprise after all. Perhaps food is no different than fashion as everything old eventually becomes new again. [Reuters]
