When it comes to the Grammys, all fashion rules go out the window!
With performers like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Carrie Underwood, you can expect the unexpected on the red carpet. And makeup is no exception. Tiffany Johnston, Senior Artist for MAC Cosmetics, predicts bold trends for Sunday and shares how to get the looks!
Go for glitter!
A perfect fit for Carrie, Tiffany says, “she doesn’t have a fear of playing with glitter. I’d love to see her really vamp it up.”
Channel your inner glam gal with MAC’s Reflects Glitter ($19.50) in either Blue or Very Pink, part of MAC’s new Hello Kitty collection (available starting February 12).
“It’s a fine glitter particle but it gives the most impact with light reflection,” Tiffany says.
Apply it on the tops of the cheekbones, underneath the eyebrows or even mix it into lip-gloss. And don’t be afraid.
“You can use a lot or a little because it comes loose in a little pot. It’s totally your discretion,” Tiffany notes.
If too much sparkle scares you, get a subtler glimmer with Hello Kitty Glitter Eye Liner, which comes in four different hues for $16.50 each.
Tiffany says, “You can just use a nice thin trace of it. It just gives you a little flash.”
And when it comes to glitter, remember Tiffany’s rule of thumb, “start with less and then you can add more.”
“The other thing I think we’ll see which is a huge trend for fall is a nice deep lip color. Something we’re seeing is berry shades… It’s anywhere from a light berry stain to thick velvety wine or merlot colors.”
Rihanna could certainly rock the look!
Tiffany says, “A dark lip on Rihanna with something shiny and translucent on the eye with lots of lashes would be amazing.”
To achieve this bold lip, “Hello Kitty has a lipstick called Most Popular ($14.00). It’s a deep berry but really sheer. You can wear it just sheer or put it over pencil to give it more depth,” Tiffany notes.
