WEC 37: Miguel Torres KOs Manny Tapia, Retains WEC Bantamweight Title

World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion Miguel Torres successfully defended his title with a sensational TKO win over Manny Tapia tonight at WEC 37, showing once again that he's one of the elite athletes in MMA.

Torres got things started with a great jab early in the first round. He later landed another jab and a solid combination, and for the entire first round he made good use of his significant reach advantage. It was clear early on that Torres was the superior fighter.

In the second round, Torres showed an unorthodox approach to throw Tapia off his game, using a front kick followed by a spinning back fist that backed Tapia against the cage. He later connected with a huge right hand, knocking Tapia to the ground, where he pounced and landed strikes. They stood back up, and Torres landed several knees to the body. Torres then knocked Tapia down with a right hand again, pounded and pummeled him, and the referee stopped the fight in the second.

Torres, widely regarded as one of the Top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in the world, improved his record to 35-1. Tapia fell to 10-1-1.
