WASHINGTON — A Centreville man died Saturday afternoon as he tried to take control of a vehicle moving in reverse that hit a townhouse.
David Sifuentes, 29, was repairing his 2001 Volkswagen sedan on Prince Way in Centreville at around 1 p.m. when he asked an 8-year-old boy inside the car to start the engine, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department.
Sifuentes was standing outside of the driver’s side door when the car started moving in reverse. Sifuentes held on to the steering wheel, trying to stop the vehicle, but was thrown from the car and hit the ground. The car continued through a parking lot, over a curb and struck a townhouse.
Sifuentes was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries have been reported.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Fairfax County police at 703-691-2131.
