Sheriff: Inmate Dies at Richmond Jail

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at Richmond’s jail.

Sheriff C.T. Woody Jr. announced in a statement that an inmate, identified as Rashad Dandridge, was fond unresponsive at the Richmond City Justice Center around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. The sheriff says the medical department treated Dandridge, but he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office and Richmond City Police Department are investigating the death and awaiting the results of the preliminary autopsy report to determine the cause and manner of death.

Officials say Dandridge was committed to the Richmond City Justice Center on March 1 on a felony probation violation and was serving a six-month sentence.
