WASHINGTON — People who have had one too many margaritas may be eligible for a free ride home following Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
The Washington Regional Alcohol Program’s SoberRide service wants to prevent drunken driving by providing people in the D.C. region free rides Friday night.
WRAP will offer free Lyft rides home to the first 1,500 passengers over the age of 21 to use the promo code CINCODC from 7 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday.
The SoberRide service provides a free ride home up to $15 within the D.C. coverage area; riders are responsible for paying anything exceeding $15.
WRAP has dispatched 66,756 safe rides home to would-be impaired drivers since 1991, according to a news release. SoberRide promotions operate during the December and January holiday season, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Independence Day and Halloween.
