CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a Hanover County teacher they say inappropriately touched a girl at an in-home day care in Chesterfield County.
Local news outlets report that police arrested 64-year-old Leslie E. Deane Jr. Monday on charges of aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties with a child by a custodian.
Chesterfield police Sgt. Brad Conner says the girl reported that she had been inappropriately touched at least once by Deane at the day care facility that Deane’s wife operates.
Hanover schools spokesman Chris Whitley says Deane has been a science teacher at Chickahominy Middle School since 1991. He says the school has taken no action on Deane’s employment.
The case remains under investigation.
It’s unclear if Deane has an attorney.
