ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A California man who prosecutors say exchanged hacking tools and stolen personal information on Russian-language cybercrime forums has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alexandria, Virginia, said in a news release that 29-year-old Alexander Tverdokhlebov of Los Angeles was sentenced Friday.
Accordingly to court documents, Tverdokhlebov emigrated from Russia in 2007 and became a U.S. citizen. Prosecutors say he offered several illegal services on the forums, including money laundering.
He also operated several botnets, which are groups of compromised computers that were used to steal credit card and other financial information.
Tverdokhlebov’s plea agreement puts the losses at $10 million or more.
