Fort Lee Soldiers Preparing for Deployment to Southwest Asia

FORT LEE, Va. (AP) — More than 60 soldiers stationed at Fort Lee are getting ready to deploy to southwest Asia.

The Richmond Times Dispatch reports that Fort Lee will host a send-off ceremony on Thursday for the 275th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, a U.S. Army reserve unit.

The battalion will train at Fort Hood, Texas before heading overseas. The soldiers will provide logistical support in the fight against Islamic State extremists in Iraq and Syria.

The battalion last deployed in 2011 to help with the drawdown of troops in Iraq.
