Dozens of Gravestones Damaged at Richmond Pet Cemetery

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Dozens of pet gravestones have been damaged by vandals at a pet cemetery in Richmond.

Marsha Rodgers, the owner of Pet Memorial Park, says she discovered over the weekend that more than 90 headstones had been knocked over. The vandals also smashed glass vases and snapped some headstones.

The pet cemetery dates back to the 1930s. Rodgers said the cemetery has long been known as a hangout spot. In the past, she’s found marijuana paraphernalia and food wrappers there.

Rodgers and her husband bought the property last year to keep it open while the owner was looking to retire. Their dog, Snowball, is buried there.

Police are investigating the vandalism.
