Buy This, Do This: Fashion's Night Out

If the buzz on Twitter and Facebook is any indication, there isn't a fashionista in D.C. who isn't obsessing about tonight's Fashion's Night Out. We've already tackled one crucial question of the day, where to shop, in Georgetown and Mid City editions, and now it's time we took on the night's most important dilemma: what to wear.

In case you hadn't noticed, D.C. has morphed into Seattle, and the torrential rains of the last few days show no signs of letting up any time soon. Unfortunately for FNO-headed shoppers, this means we have to take a little more care with our footwear than we would normally prefer. Suede booties, spike heels, and anything with fringe are sadly out of the question. Luckily, Hunter's high-heeled rain boots (pictured above) are the solution to our problems. Sturdy, practical, and, yes, waterproof, the stacked rubber heel and lace-up front remain irrefutably chic. And you can still get them before FNO begins; they're available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $225.

Now that you have the most important part of your evening's ensemble out of the way, we recommend pairing your ruggedly sexy rain boots with a midi-length wrap dress. The just-below-the-knee style is so fresh for fall and will keep the knee high heels from looking too vampy. We love this Diane von Furstenburg (pictured above, $365) for it's bold pattern and unusual color palette, but any DVF would do. Hysteria in Alexandria has a great selection of her fall line, including several wrap dresses and graphic blouses, which, if the rain never stops, will look fabulous on Monday with a pencil skirt and those Hunter boots.
